Homes With Heart

This fundraiser has been around for about nine years and during that time has evolved quite a bit. A playhouse is constructed and raffled off with the proceeds going to BBBS. For the third year in a row, the playhouse is being constructed by students at Durango High School (DHS). Under the supervision of Woods Teacher Shaun Smith, many classes at DHS become involved with this special project. Last year's Architecture class designed the entire structure, and student Stephan Cox completed the CAD rendering. The welding class is in charge of all metal work, and the Art Honor Society students will once again apply the finishing touches by painting the playhouse.

The finished playhouse will be on display in the
Town Plaza parking lot by Kroegers
in Durango around mid-November.
So be on the lookout and purchase a
raffle ticket or two to support BBBS.

The raffle drawing will be
Sunday, December 21st at 2:00,
just in time for the playhouse to be a great
Christmas present for some lucky boy or girl.

Local builders and businesses donate the materials needed to build this unique playhouse, including Dyerbilt Construction, Alpine Lumber, Kroegers, UBC, Hermosa Creek Homes, Timberline Builders, San Juan Drywall and Insulation, and Rufe's Paint Store.

The Strater Hotel is a Silver Sponsor for this fundraiser, and Bank of Colorado is a Bronze Sponsor.

our impact on children

Bigs and Littles have fun together — and create memories that last a lifetime. We call it “Little moments … Big magic.” Research on our volunteer programs points to the powerful, positive, lasting impact Bigs have on children’s lives. Littles are:

  • 52% less likely to skip school
  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • More likely to get along with their families and peers
  • Are 27% less likely to begin drinking alcohol
  • Are 33% less likely to hit someone

a few facts

  • Littles range in age from 6 to 17
  • There are no fees for BBBS services
  • BBBS offers free monthly outings to all matches, i.e. rafting, ice skating, pumpkin carving, horseback riding, holiday parties, etc.
