2008 Dos Mosca Fly Fishing Tournament

This year’s fly fishing fundraiser is scheduled for July 17 – 19.  The DOS MOSCA “Two Fly” Tournament is held in beautiful Durango located in Southwest Colorado on the south slope of the San Juan Mountains surrounded by the San Juan National Forest.  While the fishing event affords us an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Rio de las Animas Perdidas – River of Lost Souls – and the beautiful Animas Valley, the primary purpose is a prominent revenue generating event for Big Brother Big Sisters (BBBS) of Southwest Colorado.  We have all eight teams full this year and are looking forward to a fun event.
This year we’re excited to have two Gold Sponsors: Alpine Bank and Rancho del Perro Feo.  Thank yous go out to these two local businesses that care so much about the well being of our children and youth.
Anglers this year will be collecting pledges, so if you know anyone who’s fishing, they’d be happy to have you give them a flat pledge or a “by-the-inch” pledge.  Last year Bill Brown was our high pledge earner at $5,000!!!
If you’re interested in finding out more about this exciting event, please call our office at 247-3720.

our impact on children

Bigs and Littles have fun together — and create memories that last a lifetime. We call it “Little moments … Big magic.” Research on our volunteer programs points to the powerful, positive, lasting impact Bigs have on children’s lives. Littles are:

  • 52% less likely to skip school
  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • More likely to get along with their families and peers
  • Are 27% less likely to begin drinking alcohol
  • Are 33% less likely to hit someone

a few facts

  • Littles range in age from 6 to 17
  • There are no fees for BBBS services
  • BBBS offers free monthly outings to all matches, i.e. rafting, ice skating, pumpkin carving, horseback riding, holiday parties, etc.
